How to pick the right size Baseball bat
Choosing the right baseball bat is not as easy as it used to be. With improvements in technology has created a wide range of options. While wood bats are still being used in the MLB (Major League Baseball), the road to the big stage has become a competitive market for the hottest baseball bat on the market for youth sports.
Here is a few tips to make sure you find the right bat for you.
1. Make sure the bat is the proper length.
Measure the height and weight of the player you are buying for. Once you have the information, you can use the chart below as a guide. To double check if the length works for you, hold the bat to your side and as the palm of your hand can reach the handle while the tip of the bat is resting on the ground, the length should work. If you have to bend over to the grab the bat, then it is probably too short.
2. Find the proper weight
Now that you need to pick out the proper weight, commonly referred to as a drop. A drop refers to the length of the bat minus the weight. For example, if a bat is 30 inches long and has a drop of -10, the bat weight 20 ounces. The larger the drop, the less the bat will weigh. Younger players use a larger drop and older players use a smaller drop.
Finding the right size bat will effectively and safely allow your player to swing with confidence.
